The Hon. Jeff Kennett, AC

The first keynote speaker announced for SDOC 2011 is former ad man, former Premier of Victoria and President of Hawthorn Football Club, Mr Jeff Kennett.

In his tenure as Victoria’s Premier, he was envied by his counterparts for his ability to get things done.

Upon taking over as premier, he implemented a privatisation program that rescued his state from its perilous economic condition.

At the same time, the government commenced an ambitious building program, which included the Melbourne Museum, the Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Sports and Aquatic Centre, Federation Square and, most ambitious of all, the massive Crown Casino and entertainment complex at Southbank and the Docklands redevelopment.

He poached the Formula 1 Grand Prix from Adelaide and secured the 2006 Commonwealth Games, further reinforcing Victoria’s claim to be Australia’s sporting capital.
